Blue Geometric and Floral Tatreez
This design features a balanced composition of stepped geometric motifs and stylised floral forms, arranged around a central circular flower. The stepped patterns create movement and rhythm, while the floral elements soften the geometry and introduce a sense of harmony. Small square details and layered borders frame the design, giving it structure and continuity. The light background and cool colour palette emphasise clarity, calm, and renewal, reflecting a refined interpretation of traditional Palestinian tatreez.
Elements:
1) stepped geometric motifs (al-Miftah / al-Khattaf),
2) circular floral motifs (Zahra / Wardeh),
3) small square fillers (Murabba‘), and
4) decorative border bands (Tahjeer).
These elements symbolise protection, harmony, renewal, and continuity.
Origin: Central Palestine (Ramallah–Jerusalem region).
Colour Palette:
A lively blend of blues, turquoise, green, red, pink, and warm earth tones set against a light natural background. The contrasting colours create depth and movement, highlighting each motif while conveying a sense of freshness, balance, and joyful energy rooted in traditional tatreez aesthetics.
This bag is directly sourced from Palestinian women artisans in Dheisheh Refugee Camp, - Bethlehem, Palestine, ensuring your purchase supports local craftsmanship and keeps traditional embroidery alive for future generations.
This bag is a handcrafted piece. To ensure the Tatreez embroidery and textile remain vibrant for years to come, please follow these care instructions:
Spot Cleaning (Recommended): For small marks on the fabric, use a soft, damp cloth with a tiny drop of mild detergent. Gently dab the area without rubbing the embroidered threads.
Gentle Hand Wash: If the bag requires a full clean, hand wash it in cold water only. Use a gentle detergent and avoid soaking the bag for more than 10 minutes.
Handle with Care: Be mindful of the hand-stitched threads. Avoid wearing the bag against sharp jewelry, zippers, or rough surfaces that could snag the embroidery.
Drying: Never tumble dry. Reshape the bag while damp and lay it flat to air dry in the shade. Keep it out of direct sunlight while drying to prevent the textile from fading.
Do Not Iron
Colour Preservation: When not in use, store the bag in a dust bag or a cool, dry place. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the colours to fade over time.
Closures: If the zipper becomes stiff, you can run a tiny bit of beeswax or a graphite pencil along the teeth to keep it sliding smoothly.
Storage: Avoid Overstuffing it with too many items.
Artisan Tip: If you notice a tiny loose thread, do not pull it! Carefully snip it with small embroidery scissors or use a needle to tuck it back into the design.
